SC Fallen Officers – April 22

Today, we remember Aiken Police Department Patrolman Rufus H. Rodgers and South Carolina Department of Corrections Guard Archie M. Sox.

On this date in 1950, Officer Rufus Rodgers was shot and killed with his own weapon after responding to a domestic dispute between a father and two sons. Officer Rodgers is survived by his wife, son, and five daughters.

On this date in 1920, Guard Archie Sox was killed after being attacked by two inmates during an escape attempt from the DeSaussure State Prison Farm in Hagood, South Carolina. The subject who attacked Guard Sox was recaptured and subsequently sentenced to death for his murder. He was executed in the electric chair on March 4th, 1921.

SC Fallen Officers – January 28

Today, we remember Laurens Police Department Patrolman McDuffie Hampton Stone, Southern Railway Police Department Special Officer Samuel H. Boyer, New Ellenton Police Department Chief of Police Johnny Hamilton, South Carolina Public Service Authority Special Agent Frank Bailey Glover, Aiken Department of Public Safety Master Corporal Sandra Elizabeth “Sandy” Rogers, and Union County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Tommy W. Cudd.

On this date in 1909, Patrolman McDuffie Stone was killed while apprehending a trespasser in the railroad freight depot.

On this date in 1910, Special Officer Samuel Boyer was shot and killed in the Royster Yards south of Charleston when he interrupted several men breaking into a boxcar.

On this date in 2009, Chief Johnny Hamilton was killed in an automobile accident while en route to the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

On this date in 2010, Special Agent Frank Glover suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after scuffling with a drunk and disorderly man.

On this date in 2012, Master Corporal Sandy Rogers was shot and killed while responding to a call for a suspicious vehicle at Eustis Park at approximately 7:50 am.

On this date in 2021, Sergeant Tommy Cudd died from complications of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.

SC Fallen Officers – January 26

Today, we remember City of Aiken, South Carolina Government Department of Public Safety Police Officer Harold Michael Harvey.

On this date in 1978, Officer Harvey was killed after being electrocuted while assisting at the scene of a fire. As he lifted a ladder to the roof of a burning house, it came into contact with a gutter that had a live electrical line attached. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
