CLEARED Seminars

Master Class on Handling the Aftermath

October 28, Anderson, SC: Class Registration is CLOSED

We are currently working on 2027 class dates and locations.

Essential Training for South Carolina’s Law Enforcement Officers

The South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police is proud to host the CLEARED Seminars: A Master Class in Handling the Aftermath, designed specifically for active-duty officers. These one-day sessions offer critical guidance on how to protect yourself in the aftermath of an incident — whether it involves a vehicle collision, an officer-involved shooting, or any high-liability encounter.

Led by Michael E. Coviello, Esq., Associate General Counsel for the National FOP’s Labor Services Division, this training will equip law enforcement professionals with the tools needed to navigate the aftermath of high-liability incidents.

Participants will gain:

  • A clear understanding of how to navigate the immediate aftermath of a critical incident
  • Practical guidance on communication and conduct when directly involved or serving as a witness
  • Insight into the roles and responsibilities of officers based on their position in the event

This seminar supports departmental integrity, helps mitigate agency liability, and ensures officers are equipped to respond with clarity, confidence, and professionalism when it matters most.

About the Instructor

Michael E. Coviello, Esq. has been practicing law since 1993 and serves as Associate General Counsel for the Labor Services Division of the National Fraternal Order of Police. He has represented FOP members across the country since 1998, including serving as General Counsel to the Florida State Lodge and Labor Council. His background includes litigation in civil, criminal, administrative, arbitration, and collective bargaining matters. Michael is a staunch defender of officers’ rights — both in courtrooms and legislatures — and has played a vital role in organizing efforts throughout Florida. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Nova University’s Law School and an award-winning former trial attorney.

This Seminar Could Protect Your Career

Critical incidents happen without warning. How you respond — and what you do or say — can have lifelong consequences. This seminar is designed to prepare you for that moment. You will leave with a clearer understanding of your rights, your obligations, and the protections available through the FOP.

Hosting the CLEARED Master Class

Each year, we select locations throughout South Carolina for the CLEARED Master Class. Agencies interested in hosting a session should contact Training Chairman Mike Peek for additional information and scheduling availability.
