Funeral arrangements have been announced for Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Wade Hendricks, who died in the line of duty on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. He was 33 years old.

Nov 30, 1992 — Sep 9, 2026
Deputy Hendricks’ funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Church, 337 Farmington Road, Summerville, South Carolina. The Hendricks family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour before the service.
Deputy Hendricks served the Lowcountry throughout his law enforcement career, including service with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, and Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. At Charleston County, he served with the Metro Unit, where his work included vice investigations and undercover operations.
Born November 30, 1992, in Charleston, Deputy Hendricks was the husband of Kayla Henson Hendricks and the father of five children, including two stepchildren. Away from the badge, he enjoyed fishing, paintball, video games, and sports. He was a devoted South Carolina Gamecocks fan, but one of his greatest joys was coaching his son in baseball and sharing the game with his children.
His death has been felt throughout the Lowcountry law enforcement community, including among officers and deputies who served alongside him at different points in his career. Those relationships are a reminder that the loss of an officer extends well beyond a single agency.
The South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police extends its deepest condolences to Kayla, their children, the entire Hendricks family, Sheriff Carl Ritchie, and every member of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. We also remember the officers throughout the Lowcountry who knew Michael personally, worked beside him, and are now carrying the weight of his loss while continuing to serve their communities.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel.
