Working the American Nightmare Training Coming to Newberry-2

Law enforcement professionals will have an opportunity this fall to participate in an immersive training program at Newberry College built around the case of Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn.

Working the American Nightmare: The Case of Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn will be held on October 20 in Newberry. Organized by Fortis Tactical, the program will examine the decisions, assumptions, interviews, trauma responses, and investigative turning points involved in the case.

Rather than simply reviewing the case or the Netflix documentary that brought renewed attention to it, the training is designed to place law enforcement professionals inside the circumstances and decisions that shaped the investigation.

A Case-Based Approach to Training

The instructor team will include SASS Go and Fortis Tactical Systems. Huskins and Quinn will also participate in person throughout the training, giving attendees an opportunity to hear directly from the people whose experiences were at the center of the case.

The program will use those firsthand perspectives as part of a broader examination of investigative practices, interviewing, trauma, officer wellness, leadership, and public trust.

Topics scheduled for the training include:

  • Investigative decision-making and judgment
  • Motivational and cognitive interviewing techniques
  • Trauma, stress, hypervigilance, and bias
  • Victim behavior and credibility
  • Officer wellness and law enforcement culture
  • Leadership, accountability, and public trust

Training Details

The training will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gnann Center at Newberry College, 1121 Speers St., Newberry, SC 29108.

The standard registration fee is $179 and includes lunch. Agency personnel can register for a reduced rate of $150 by using the code FORTISTACTICAL during registration.

The program is listed as South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Lesson Plan #7668 and provides 6.25 CLEE credits.

Attendance is limited to law enforcement personnel and authorized criminal justice professionals.
