The South Carolina State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police, the state chapter of the nation’s largest law enforcement organization, today announced its endorsement of Attorney General Alan Wilson for Governor of South Carolina in the 2026 general election.
The endorsement follows a comprehensive process in which candidates were invited to complete a detailed questionnaire addressing issues affecting law enforcement officers, their families, and public safety. Candidates for Governor also participated in interviews with representatives of the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police.
The endorsement reflects the vote of South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police members across the state. The organization’s endorsement process gives every member an opportunity, through one of its 19 local lodges, to make their choice known to their lodge Trustee. Informed by the membership of their lodge, each Trustee casts a vote at the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police Board of Directors meeting. A candidate must receive the support of at least two-thirds of the local lodges to earn the organization’s endorsement. Wilson easily cleared that threshold.
Wilson has served as South Carolina Attorney General since 2011 and previously served as an assistant solicitor and assistant attorney general. During the endorsement process, he addressed issues including officer due process, recruitment and retention, retirement security, protections for law enforcement K-9s, officer safety, and consultation with law enforcement when developing public safety policy.
“Alan Wilson has spent years working with the men and women who protect South Carolina, and our members know his record,” South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police President John Blackmon said. “Just as important, he understands that good public safety policy cannot be developed without listening to the officers who are doing this job every day. He has committed to keeping law enforcement at the table as Governor, and we believe that relationship will make South Carolina safer.”
During the endorsement process, Wilson supported establishing clear due process protections for officers and expressed support for legislation designed to protect officers from interference while performing their duties. He also committed to strengthening protections for law enforcement K-9s and maintaining regular consultation with frontline officers and law enforcement organizations.
“Law enforcement officers need a Governor who understands that public safety starts with supporting the men and women responsible for keeping our communities safe,” Blackmon said. “Alan Wilson has demonstrated throughout his career that he understands the challenges facing law enforcement, and he has been willing to listen when officers bring those challenges to him. We believe he will bring that same commitment and accessibility to the Governor’s Office.”
