SC Fallen Officers – April 28

April 28, 2025

Today, we remember Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff Jesse Lynwood Mallett.

On this date in 1979, at around 4 o’clock in the morning, Deputy Jessie Mallett was driving on Highway 301, returning to Manning from a call, when a truck pulled out of the Howard Johnson’s parking lot into the path of his patrol car. Deputy Mallett swerved to avoid the collision, but the truck struck the patrol car. Deputy Mallett was killed instantly. He was survived by his wife, Josephine, his daughter and son, along with his four sisters and two brothers.
