SC Fallen Officers – April 6

Today, we remember Sumter County Rural Police Officer William Muldrow Strange and Saluda County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Dale Shannon Hallman.

On this date in 1937, Rural Police Officer William Strange was shot and killed while conducting an investigation into illegal whiskey manufacturing at a rural home.

On this date in 2018, Corporal Dale Hallman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Pencreek Road while responding to a call at approximately 1:00 a.m.

SC Fallen Officers – February 26

Today, we remember South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Corporal George Don Peeler and Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (Sumter, SC) Sergeant Charles B. Kubala, Sr.

On this date in 1989, Corporal George Peeler was killed in a vehicle accident about eight miles south of Gaffney while on duty.

On this date in 1996, Sergeant Charles Kubala was shot and killed after responding to a call of a suspicious person. When he arrived at the scene, he confronted the suspect, who shot him once in the ear and once in the shoulder with a .22 caliber handgun.

SC Fallen Officers – February 25

Today, we remember Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Andrew John Gillette.

On this date in 2020, Corporal Andrew Gillette was shot and killed while he and other deputies attempted to serve a detention order and eviction notice at a home at 3120 Thomas Sumter Highway at 11:30 am.
