Legislative Advocacy

South Carolina Statehouse

At the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police, our mission goes beyond advocacy—it is a deep commitment to the well-being of every law enforcement officer who stands on the front lines to protect our communities. These brave men and women deserve more than fair treatment; they deserve unwavering support, secure futures, and the peace of mind that their rights are protected. Our legislative priorities are more than just policies—they are the foundation of a safer, stronger future for all those who wear the badge.

We are the only police organization in South Carolina with lobbyists actively working at the Statehouse in Columbia and in Washington, D.C. Our presence in these legislative halls ensures that the voices of law enforcement professionals are heard, their rights defended, and their protection prioritized at every level of government.

Learn About Our Top Priorities

Our Work in Columbia

In South Carolina, the FOP actively engages with the General Assembly, advocating for policies that protect officers, improve working conditions, and strengthen public safety. Our legislative team works closely with lawmakers to draft, support, and advance bills that directly impact law enforcement. Whether it is securing fair benefits, enhancing penalties for crimes against officers, or ensuring due process protections, our efforts are driven by one goal—making South Carolina a safer place for both officers and the communities they serve. By maintaining a constant presence at the Statehouse, we ensure that the concerns of rank-and-file officers are not just heard, but acted upon.

Our Influence in Washington, D.C.

On the national stage, the Fraternal Order of Police is the most powerful voice for law enforcement. Since 1993, the National FOP has maintained a full-time presence in Washington, D.C., through the Steve Young Law Enforcement Legislative Advocacy Center. This center operates at the highest levels of government, lobbying Congress, federal agencies, and the White House on critical public safety issues. The FOP’s Grassroots Action Network strengthens relationships on Capitol Hill, ensuring that lawmakers understand the needs and challenges of law enforcement officers. The FOP also plays a crucial role in shaping public perception by engaging with the media, managing national social media campaigns, and providing weekly legislative updates to members. Additionally, through the National FOP Political Action Committee (NFOP PAC), the FOP supports candidates who stand with law enforcement, ensuring that our priorities remain at the forefront of national policymaking.

Through our advocacy at both the state and federal levels, the FOP remains committed to defending the interests of law enforcement officers, advancing policies that promote public safety, and ensuring that those who serve are supported every step of the way.

Learn More About Our Efforts in Washington DC

The National FOP and the National Legislative Program, led by the Steve Young Law Enforcement Legislative Advocacy Center, produce the FOP Weekly Update, a key resource to help our members stay informed on the legislation pertinent to law enforcement. It is also a great way to stay current on what the FOP is doing for our members in Washington, D.C. This one-of-a-kind weekly update is available to all members through the NFOP Mobile App, or you can sign up to receive the update via email below.
