About Us

South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police

Established in 1977, the South Carolina State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police has been a steadfast advocate for law enforcement officers statewide. Serving as the collective voice for those dedicated to safeguarding our communities, we remain unwavering in our commitment to improve the working conditions of law enforcement officers and provide a unified voice for South Carolina Law Enforcement by empowering, uniting, and defending the rights of law enforcement professionals. Our approach involves active engagement in education, legislation, information dissemination, and community participation.

Our Affiliation

South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police is part of the National Fraternal Order of Police, the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, boasting over 380,000 members in more than 2,200 lodges.

Mission Statement

At the heart of our mission is the advancement and protection of law enforcement officers, the promotion of officer benefits, and the steadfast enforcement of law and order. We proudly serve as the collective voice for those who selflessly dedicate their lives to safeguarding our communities.

Multifaceted Approach

Committed to improving working conditions and ensuring the safety of both officers and the communities they serve, we engage in a multifaceted approach. Through education, legislation, information dissemination, community involvement, and dedicated employee representation, we address the unique challenges faced by today’s police officers.

Advocacy Beyond Borders

Congress of the United States

Our influence extends beyond South Carolina, with full-time lobbyists in Washington, D.C., focusing on national legislation, and additional lobbyists in the state working on local legislation. As advocates for our members, we work tirelessly to secure their benefits and provide access to the best legal defense plan. Additionally, our members benefit from insurance policies, including $5,000 for accidental death and up to $32,500 for line-of-duty death.

What We Do

We work with the state and federal legislatures to enhance and protect the rights of law enforcement.

No one knows the dangers and the difficulties faced by today’s police officers better than another officer, and no one knows police officers better than the FOP. We are the only organization with lobbyists in Columbia and in Washington, D.C., looking out for the well-being of law enforcement.

Honoring Our Heroes

South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Memorial

We will never forget our fallen heroes.

Never forgotten, always honored. The South Carolina FOP stands steadfast in remembering our fallen heroes through our annual memorial service at the Statehouse monument, their sacrifice forever etched in our hearts and minds.

The Statehouse monument, established through the efforts of the South Carolina FOP, was installed on February 15, 2006. Although initially authorized in 1994, funding for the memorial—an appropriation of $500,000 from the General Assembly—was not secured until 2003. With a 45-foot diameter, it stands as the largest monument on the grounds. Originally, it bore the names of 308 law enforcement officers who had fallen in the line of duty since 1797, with additional names added each year. At its center, a pillar topped by a bald eagle features the inscription: “Lest We Forget: Dedicated to the Men and Women Who Helped Preserve Law and Order.” The memorial is intersected by a “thin blue line” of glass bricks, crafted by local artisans at One Eared Cow Glass, symbolizing law enforcement’s role in protecting civilization from disorder.
