2026 FOP Day at the Statehouse

South Carolina law enforcement leaders unite to advocate for officer safety and strengthen relationships with lawmakers

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, members of the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police gathered in Columbia for the annual FOP Day at the Statehouse, bringing together law enforcement leaders and lawmakers for a full day of legislative engagement and advocacy.

Members traveled from across the state, including representatives from local lodges, the State Board, and the Legislative Committee, to ensure that the voice of South Carolina’s law enforcement community was present and heard. The day was organized in coordination with the FOP’s legislative advocacy team, including a brief but important acknowledgment of the continued support and guidance provided by Stewart Konduros and Associates, whose work helps advance the interests of law enforcement professionals at the Statehouse.

Building Relationships with State Leaders

The morning began with the Legislative Breakfast, where numerous members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, the South Carolina Senate, and their staff joined FOP members for meaningful conversations. These informal discussions are a critical part of the legislative process, allowing lawmakers to hear directly from the officers and leaders who are impacted by the policies they consider.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson also attended the breakfast, taking time to speak personally with FOP members. His presence reinforced the importance of maintaining strong relationships between law enforcement professionals and state leadership.

During the breakfast, FOP representatives distributed legislative priority one-sheets outlining key public safety initiatives and providing legislators with clear information about the issues most important to South Carolina law enforcement officers.

Advocating for Officer Safety and Public Protection

Throughout the day, FOP members met directly with legislators and their staff to discuss legislation aimed at improving officer safety and strengthening protections for those who serve.

Among the topics discussed were proposals designed to create stronger legal protections for officers who are targeted or interfered with while performing their duties, as well as legislation to enhance penalties for those who harm or attempt to harm law enforcement K-9s. These highly trained partners play a critical role in protecting communities and supporting officers in dangerous situations.

These conversations ensured lawmakers heard firsthand how legislative decisions affect officers on the street and the communities they serve.

A Visible Presence in the Statehouse

Following the breakfast, FOP members spent the remainder of the day visiting legislative offices and engaging with lawmakers throughout the Statehouse. Members were present in both the House and Senate chambers, demonstrating the unity and professionalism of the Fraternal Order of Police.

This direct engagement helps strengthen relationships, builds trust, and ensures that lawmakers recognize the Fraternal Order of Police as the collective voice of law enforcement professionals across South Carolina.

Advocacy Is a Year-Round Effort

FOP Day at the Statehouse is more than a single event. It represents an ongoing commitment to protecting the rights, safety, and well-being of South Carolina’s law enforcement officers. By maintaining a consistent presence and building strong relationships with elected officials, the Fraternal Order of Police ensures that the concerns of officers remain part of the legislative conversation.

The success of this year’s event reflects the strength and unity of the FOP. When members come together with a shared purpose, their voice carries further and their impact is greater.

The South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police will continue working alongside lawmakers and public safety leaders to advance policies that protect officers and strengthen the communities they serve.
