SC Fallen Officers – April 24

April 24, 2025

Today, we remember City of Cayce Police Department Police Officer Roy Andrew Barr and Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office SC Master Deputy James Lester Kirk, Jr.

On this date in 2022, Police Officer Drew Barr was shot and killed as he and other officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home on Rossmore Drive at about 2:45 am. Officer Barr had served with the Cayce Police Department for six years and was assigned to the Canine Division. Officer Barr had previously been shot and wounded in the line of duty after being ambushed following a vehicle pursuit of a stolen car on May 27th, 2017.

On this date in 2018, Master Deputy James Kirk suffered a heart attack during a combat firearms training at the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office range on Reservoir Road. Deputy Kirk had served with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office for three years after having retired from the Lancaster Police Department with 25 years of service. He is survived by his wife and four children.
