Today, we remember Deputy U.S. Marshals Christopher Duffie Corbin and William Benjamin Franklin Corbin.
On this date in 1909, both Marshals were shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man for shooting and damaging a rural postal box. They located the man hiding in the loft of a barn approximately three-quarters of a mile south of Walhalla. As they attempted to remove him, the suspect’s family members opened fire on the Marshals, killing both.
