On this date in 1871, Deputy Sheriff Smith was shot and killed while tracking murder suspects.
On this date in 1893, Constable Joseph Trescott was shot and killed as he and another constable attempted to serve a warrant on a man for attempting to murder a plant foreman at the Wando Phosphate Works.
On this date in 1925, Officer Benjamin Carden was shot and killed while attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a suspect. Officer Carden was shot at close range in the abdomen with a shotgun.
On this date in 1990, Patrolman Joshua Milligan was fatally stabbed while arresting a man at a domestic dispute call on Roosevelt Road. A struggle ensued between Patrolman Milligan and the man inside the home. The man stabbed him in the heart with a steak knife and then fled in his patrol car after stealing his service weapon. He was arrested two hours later.
On this date in 2021, Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Price was killed in a vehicle crash at the intersection of Maiden Down Road and Jackson Road at approximately 10:50 pm.
