What Is the Back the Badge License Plate?

The Back the Badge license plate is more than just a vehicle accessory – it’s a symbol of unity, respect, and support for South Carolina’s law enforcement officers. The plate is available to all South Carolina residents for a fee of $40 every two years, in addition to the standard vehicle registration fee.

How to Get Your Plate

Obtaining your Back the Badge plate is simple. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Apply online at the South Carolina Department of Motor vehicles website.

OR

  1. Complete the Application: Fill out SCDMV Form MV-95, the Application for Special Plate.
  2. Submit the Form and Fees: Submit the completed form along with the $40 special plate fee and your regular registration fees to your local SCDMV office.
  3. Receive Your Plate: Once processed, your new Back the Badge license plate will be proudly displayed on your vehicle, showing your commitment to supporting law enforcement.

Where Do the Proceeds Go?

Proceeds from the sale of Back the Badge plates directly support law enforcement initiatives and programs.
