Three law enforcement officers killed, five wounded, in Charlotte

April 29, 2024

In the wake of the devastating tragedy in Charlotte, where three law enforcement officers lost their lives and five others were wounded while attempting to serve a warrant, the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police stands in solemn solidarity with our brothers and sisters in blue. We condemn, in the strongest terms, the violent actions of the criminal responsible for this senseless act of aggression.

The loss of our fellow officers is a stark reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face daily while protecting our communities. It is an indescribable tragedy that strikes at the heart of law enforcement families and reverberates throughout our entire community. These brave men and women made the ultimate sacrifice, laying down their lives in service to their fellow citizens. We mourn their loss deeply, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

Furthermore, we denounce the continuing war on law enforcement that has plagued our nation. The targeted violence against those who dedicate their lives to upholding the law and ensuring public safety is an affront to the values of justice and civility. It is imperative that we come together as a community to unequivocally reject such acts of violence and stand in unwavering support of our law enforcement officers.

We urge the community to rally behind our law enforcement agencies and offer them the support and resources they need to carry out their duties safely and effectively. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we demonstrate our appreciation for the sacrifices made by our officers and show them that they are valued members of our society.

As we grieve the loss of our fallen heroes, let us also honor their memory by renewing our commitment to building safer and stronger communities. We must work together to address the root causes of crime and violence, foster trust and collaboration between law enforcement and the communities they serve, and advocate for policies that prioritize the safety and well-being of both officers and civilians alike.

In closing, the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police extends our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officers, as well as to the entire law enforcement community in Charlotte and beyond. We stand with you in solidarity and resolve, determined to honor the legacy of those we have lost by continuing the important work of safeguarding our communities and upholding the principles of justice and integrity.

Together, let us rise above tragedy and adversity, united in our commitment to supporting and defending the brave men and women who risk their lives to protect and serve.
