Mt Pleasant Police Recognizes Those Who Assisted Injured Officer

February 16, 2024

In a recent ceremony that resonates with the spirit of community and resilience, the Mt Pleasant Police Department took a commendable step in acknowledging the outstanding contributions of two exceptional citizens, Lisa Hughes and David Goltra. The South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police (SCFOP) is delighted to spotlight this heartwarming event, where the Mt Pleasant Police Department presented the esteemed Citizen Lifesaving Awards to Hughes and Goltra for their heroic actions in aiding Patrolman First Class Adam Blankenship during a critical incident in December 2023.

The incident unfolded when Patrolman Blankenship, engaged in a traffic stop that escalated into a foot pursuit at Hungryneck Boulevard and Venning Road in Mount Pleasant, was struck by a vehicle. The consequences were severe, with Blankenship sustaining several internal injuries that required extensive medical procedures for recovery.

Amidst the challenges, the SCFOP is pleased to see the Mt Pleasant Police Department recognizing the extraordinary efforts of Hughes and Goltra. Their quick thinking, courage, and compassion exemplify the strong bond that exists between law enforcement officers and the community they serve. The Citizen Lifesaving Awards, presented in a ceremony that showcased the unity between law enforcement and citizens, highlight the invaluable support that community members can provide in times of need.

The SCFOP extends its commendations to the Mt Pleasant Police Department for acknowledging these local heroes. The collaborative efforts of the police department, in partnership with Serve and Connect, to raise funds for the Blankenship family underscore the unity and support within the law enforcement community. As of Friday, Feb. 16, the community has rallied together, raising an impressive $43,436 towards their $50,000 goal, emphasizing the unwavering commitment to those who dedicate their lives to safeguarding others.

In celebrating these acts of bravery, the SCFOP expresses gratitude to Lisa Hughes and David Goltra and commends the Mt Pleasant Police Department for recognizing their outstanding contributions. This event serves as a poignant reminder of the positive impact that can be achieved when law enforcement and the community work together to create a safer and more supportive environment for all.
