Standing Strong Together: Supporting Deputy Chris Motes in His Battle Against Cancer

January 25, 2024

In a recent turn of events, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is calling upon our tight-knit community to come together and rally behind Deputy Chris Motes, who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.

It all began when Deputy Motes experienced a seizure, leading to an MRI that unveiled a tumor on his brain. The diagnosis revealed kidney cancer that has metastasized to his lungs and brain, presenting a challenging journey ahead.

Over the next two days, Deputy Motes is scheduled to undergo a series of procedures, including an extensive surgery to remove the brain tumor. This courageous step, however, comes with the realization that he will be unable to return to work for a significant period. The resulting medical bills and expenses for follow-up appointments remain a pressing concern.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, Deputy Motes’ wife, Tabitha, who works for the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control, will also be taking time off to care for him during his recovery.

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, recognizing the financial strain that comes with such health challenges, has initiated a fundraiser to support Deputy Motes in covering his medical expenses. The community is urged to join hands in providing assistance to the Motes family during this difficult time.

Deputy Motes, having served with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office for just under a year and contributed over a decade to law enforcement, is described as a brave and selfless individual. The sheriff’s office emphasizes the need for collective support, stating, “Let’s come together to rally behind one of our own, a brave deputy who selflessly serves and protects. Chris and Tabitha are both kind and giving people who need our help. LCSO will stand by them during this difficult journey.”

To contribute to Deputy Motes’ fundraiser, you can click [here]. Additionally, donations are being accepted via Venmo to @LaurensCountySheriff with “Motes” specified in the memo. Monetary donations can also be dropped off at the sheriff’s office during normal business hours, with donors specifying that the contribution is intended for Deputy Motes.

Let us stand strong as a community, demonstrating our unwavering support for Deputy Chris Motes and his family as they face this challenging chapter in their lives.
