Marion County Corporal Saves Baby

May 8, 2024 by John Blackmon

In a world where every second counts, heroes emerge from the shadows to make a difference. One such hero is Corporal Ben Scott, a dedicated officer serving the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. His recent act of valor has not only touched hearts but also saved a precious life.

On a fateful day in 2024, Corporal Scott responded to a distress call at the Woodmen Life Lodge #122 in Bennettsville. The urgency in the dispatcher’s voice echoed through the radio as he raced against time. Inside the lodge, a newborn baby named Ben had stopped breathing. Panic filled the room as the child’s parents looked on, desperate for help.

Without hesitation, Corporal Scott sprang into action. His training kicked in, and he performed CPR on little Ben. Every chest compression counted, every breath mattered. In those critical moments, Corporal Scott’s unwavering commitment to duty and compassion for life shone brightly.

The outcome was nothing short of miraculous. Ben’s tiny chest rose, and color returned to his lips. The room erupted in applause as Corporal Scott held the fragile life he had fought so hard to save. For his heroic efforts, he was awarded the Lifesaver Award by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Corporal Scott’s actions remind us that law enforcement officers are more than just their badges. They are our protectors, our guardians, and our everyday heroes. His dedication to serving the community extends beyond the call of duty, touching lives in profound ways.

As the news spread, the community rallied around Corporal Scott. Citizens expressed their gratitude, emphasizing how his swift response had made all the difference. Marion County owes a debt of gratitude to this exceptional officer, whose courage and compassion exemplify the best of law enforcement.

Corporal Ben Scott’s story is a testament to the power of selflessness and the impact one person can have. As we honor him today, let us remember that heroes walk among us, wearing uniforms and carrying badges. To Corporal Scott, we say: Thank you for being our lifeline, our protector, and our beacon of hope.
