We are pleased to announce that Governor Henry McMaster has signed Senate Bill 969 into law, significantly enhancing the financial support for law enforcement officers across South Carolina. This legislation, introduced by Senators Alexander, Peeler, Setzler, K. Johnson, Young, Malloy, Senn, Stephens, McLeod, and Gustafson, increases the subsistence allowance from $8 to $16 per day for federal, state, and local law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical service personnel.
The subsistence allowance is designed to help cover the daily expenses incurred by these dedicated public servants while performing their duties. This increase not only acknowledges the vital role law enforcement officers play in our communities but also provides tangible support to help ease their financial burdens.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the legislators who sponsored this bill for their commitment to supporting law enforcement officers. Their leadership and dedication have been instrumental in passing this significant legislation. Additionally, we express our gratitude to Governor McMaster for his continued support and for signing this important bill into law.
This increase in the subsistence deduction is a step in the right direction towards recognizing and valuing the hard work and sacrifices made by law enforcement officers. It underscores our collective commitment to ensuring their well-being and providing them with the necessary resources to continue safeguarding our communities.
